Freyja and the Rainbow Dance

Five days before the Midwinter Festival, the little fjord village of Snærvík glows pink all day long. The aunties call Freyja the village's hero.

Every night she dances the Rainbow Dance and sweeps away the shadows. Every morning, the village is a little quieter.

Freyja and the Rainbow Dance is a short story-driven action game in the style of Vampire Survivors, drawn in pastel pixel art. It does not stay bright all the way through.

♥ Play

• Just move. Freyja attacks on her own. Survive the night, collect hearts and level up.
• Pick one of three cards each level: weapons and keepsakes like the Heart Boomerang, the Rainbow Ribbon and Star Candy. Raise a weapon together with its partner keepsake and it evolves.
• Five nights, five bosses: Gull Beach, Woolly Hill Farm, the Herring Cannery, the Ice Lighthouse and the Midwinter Festival Stage. Each night bends the rules a little.
• Mornings in the village: talk to Árni the fisherman, Þóra the postmistress, little Óli and Miss Halldóra the music teacher. The same words may sound different later.

Gamepads work too (left stick to move, A to confirm, Start to pause). Use the fullscreen button under the game for the best view. On phones, play in landscape.

♥ Length

• About 35 minutes to the first ending at normal speed.
• About 75 minutes to see everything (first ending, then a second run to the true ending) at normal speed.
• With 3× battle speed, under about 1 hour in total.

(Measured during development; reading every line and chatting with every villager takes longer.)

Progress saves automatically in your browser every morning. Clearing your browser data erases it.

♥ Languages

English, Korean (한국어) and Japanese (日本語). The game follows your device or browser language and can be switched any time in Settings → Language.

♥ Accessibility and comfort

Battle speed-up, Reduce Flashing & Shaking, Large Text, High-Contrast Captions, Story Mode (−50% damage taken while moving) and a "skip meta effects" option are all in Settings. Some late-game screen effects are meant to unsettle you; you can always skip them with the on-screen Skip button, or hold Esc / ⏸ for 5 seconds to open a real menu. Nothing in the game ever stops you from closing the tab.

♥ Content note

Under the cute pixels, this story deals with abuse at home, coercion and manipulation, and suicide is referenced (as an outcome only). There is stylized fantasy violence. Nothing is depicted graphically: there is no sexual content, no depiction of self-harm methods, and only tiny pixel-scale blood. Recommended for players 15 and up.
